Let’s talk about me.
My name is Sara Whitlock, and I am the proud owner of Frayed Knot Photography.
My life is very busy, all year long, because of everything I’m involved in.
KIDS
I’m the mother of five busy children. No, that is not a typo; there are, in fact, five of them. They range in age from 14 to 4, with a smidge more boys than girls. When I say they’re busy, I don’t mean that they have a lot going on in their lives, per se. I mean that they are always moving, constantly changing, and never ceasing to amaze me. Between their accomplishments and their mistakes, there is never a dull moment, until all of their heads hit the pillows. Even then, there are sometimes surprises left over for me to find!
PHOTOGRAPHY
I speak Nikon; it’s like a whole other language. There is much discussion as to which type of camera does the best job… Nikon is my choice, because it works for me. I started taking photos back when I was around 9 years old, with one of those thin, rectangle cameras that took 110 film. I must have taken hundreds, if not thousands of photos with it! Of course, because that was before digital, I have a lot of prints of…nothing, and blur, and junk. When I was an active duty Marine, I got my first digital camera. It was AMAZING! I could take photos and then look at them instantly, and erase them if I wanted to! Of course, that also meant that I hardly ever bought prints, and there were a lot of photos that were lost, due to damage, etc, of the memory card. Luckily, we have redundant backup systems now, so I don’t have that problem anymore.
MARINE
I was active duty for 9 years, from 1997 until 2006. I was a 6154 and a 9954; a huey and cobra airframe and a hazardous materials handler. It was a fun, whirlwind of a time. It had its ups and downs, and I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world.
DERBY
I am a roller derby girl!! I LOVE being on my skates, knocking into people, and turning left. My favorite position is jammer, but I can also play blocker. My derby name is MasokissChic.
